Commercial Metals Company has completed the acquisition of global ground stabilisation and soil reinforcement solutions provider Tensar.

Commercial Metals Company (CMC) purchased Tensar from New York-based private equity firm Castle Harlan for US$550M (£440M). It had already entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the company at the end of last year.

US-headquartered Tensar sells its geogrid and foundation system product lines across 80 national markets. Its polymer-based geogrids are used for ground stabilisation, soil reinforcement and asphalt optimisation in construction applications including roadways, public infrastructure and industrial facilities.

Tensar’s Geopier foundation systems are ground improvement solutions that can increase the load-bearing characteristics of ground structures and working surfaces. They can be applied in soil types and construction situations in which traditional support methods would be impractical.

CMC and its subsidiaries manufacture, recycle and fabricate steel and metal products, as well as related materials and services. It has facilities in the US and Poland.

CMC president, CEO and chairman of the board said Barbara Smith said: “I am thrilled to welcome Tensar’s 650 worldwide employees to Commercial Metals.

“This acquisition marks another important milestone in CMC’s growth strategy, expanding the scope of products and services we can provide to our customers.”
